Arrive at Sirimon Gate (2,650m) and enjoy lunch before starting the trek. The hike to Old Moses Camp (also known as Judmeier Camp) spans approximately 9 kilometers, taking 3 to 4 hours through dense forest, bamboo, and heath zones.
You'll arrive at Old Moses Camp (3,300m) by 2:30 – 3:00 p.m. Later in the evening, take a short acclimatization hike up to 3,600 meters, where you'll enter the savanna moorland and enjoy panoramic views of the Laikipia Plateau.
Dinner and overnight at Old Moses Camp.
Day 2: Old Moses Camp to Likii Viewpoint – Return to Camp
After an early breakfast at 6:00 a.m., begin your ascent to Likii Viewpoint (4,001m). This scenic hike offers stunning views of the Likii Valley, as well as Mount Kenya’s twin peaks: Batian (5,199m) and Nelion (5,188m).
After enjoying the high-altitude views and photo opportunities, descend back to Old Moses Camp for a hearty lunch. The afternoon is reserved for rest and optional nature walks for further acclimatization.
Dinner and overnight at Old Moses Camp.
Day 3: Old Moses Camp to Shipton's Camp via Mackinder Valley
After an early breakfast, depart from Old Moses Camp and trek toward Shipton's Camp, located at 4,200 meters. This leg of the hike is approximately 14 kilometers and takes 6–7 hours, following the scenic Mackinder Valley.
You’ll pass Liki North Camp and walk through spectacular alpine scenery with giant groundsels, lobelias, and rocky ridges. Views of the peaks improve as you gain altitude, preparing you for summit day.
Arrive at Shipton’s Camp in the afternoon. The camp is nestled below Mount Kenya’s main peaks and offers a dramatic backdrop for the night.
Dinner and overnight at Shipton’s Camp.
